Hi, I’m Brian. I’m a self-taught JavaScript coder, frontend master, speaker, blogger, mentor, and father. I love creating things that people can use, in fact you’ve probably used my code. I’ve been programming for the web since I was a teenager in 1997. I’ve been everywhere on the stack, but my passion is on the frontend. JavaScript Artisan is my place to continue my journey of mastering my craft, and help you do the same. I’ve worked at craigslist.org, loom.com and a handful of other interesting startups.
I go by JSArtisan because coding is a craft. An art that takes the form of building invisible machines to do magical things. Like any craft, mastery is a journey, not a destination. Evolving tools, philosophies, and perspectives all contribute to the dynamic nature of our craft, and provide endless challenges and opportunities. I use vanilla JavaScript and frameworks, HTML5 and CSS3 as my raw materials.
I’m a technological optimist and deeply believe in our collective ability to improve humanity through technology. The open source community is constantly evolving with people all over the world pitching in to help us all out together. You can find me on GitHub reading repos, Twitter talking about coding, or sharing tips at various conferences.
When I’m not coding or writing about it, I’m playing dress up with my kids, supporting my partner Ebony in her adventures, and making real things out of wood and clay.
I’d love to connect with you, hit me up!
